– Acyutānanda Dāsa (‘śūnya sanhitā’, chapter forty-four)

Seeing the rampant darkness of vices in Kali Yuga, Lord Vishnu will decide to descend to earth in His Kalki Avatar (incarnation), asserts great sage Achyutanand Das in his book, ‘Shunya Samhita’. Leaving His abode at ‘Vaikuntha’, the Lord will take birth in a village named ‘Sambal’. He will be born to a brahmin who sings the glories of Lord Vishnu and resides near the bank of the Ganga. (River ‘Baitarani’ is known as the ‘Gupt Ganga’ of Odisha). The Lord will take birth from the womb of ‘Jasobanti’, the Brahmin’s consort. He will be born in the 12th month of pregnancy and, a few days thereafter, the natal rituals will be performed.

2.

sambala grāmara uttara pārśvara biṣṇu śarmā dvijabara

tāhāra gharaṇī jaśobanti rāṇī barāha ketra madhyare

janama labhibe gupatare thibe kehi na cinhibe jana

bhakata mānaku adr‌śya hoibe kāhāri na thibā jñāna

– Acyutānanda Dāsa (mahāmahimā pada ṭīkā sāgara)

600 years prior to Lord Kalki’s incarnation at the end of Kali Yuga, Odisha’s revered sage Achyutanand Das had given a detailed description of the Lord’s birth. In his Malika treatise ‘Mahamahima Pada Tika Sagara’, he writes that the Lord will be born to a Brahmin devotee of Lord Vishnu named Vishnu Sharma, and his consort Jashobanti, the former residing in the northern part of Sambhala, while the latter hailing from the central Lakshmi Varaha region (on the other side of River Vaitarani). The Lord will take birth secretly and nobody will be able to recognize Him. He will conceal His identity even from His devotees and for a few years, everyone will remain oblivious to the fact that the Supreme Lord has indeed taken birth on the earth.

3.

kalaṅkī ra sīmā kāla pūri gale kalakī viṣṇujasā pure

sambala grāmare jāta hoithibe mleccha saṁghāra kālare

            – terajanama saraṇa, Acyutānanda Dāsa

Though some vedic scriptures claim the total probable age of Kali Yuga to be 432,000 years, others like ‘Manusmriti’, ‘Nirnaya Sindhu’, and ‘Garga Samhita’, apart from ‘Bhavishya Malika’, attest to the fact that the lifetime of Kali Yuga will end in about 5000 years only. Sage Achyutanand Das lucidly states in his Malika treatise ‘Teraha Janma Sharana’ that once this short lifespan of Kali Yuga gets over, the Lord will be born in village Sambal, in the house of a virtuous Brahmin who sings the Lord’s glories.

4.

tumbaṇku kahibā muni suṇa nirantare

– BālmikīKalpa, Acyutānanda Dās

kalki avatāra oḍiśā manḍala tumbhe janama hoiba |

duṣṭa jana nāśī bhaktaṇku usavāsī dharma ku tumbhe sthāpiba

– Cumbaka Malikā, Siśu Ananta, adhyāya 1 , śloka 40

In their numerous Malika treatises, the Panchsakha have severally emphasized the fact that Lord Kalki will take birth in Odisha and unfold His divine plays there itself.

The revered sage Achyutanand Das, while addressing sage Valmiki in the treatise ‘Balmikikalpa’, repeatedly asks him to rest assured that the Supreme Lord will be born in Utkala (an ancient name for Odisha).

Similarly, in his treatise ‘Chumbaka Malika’, sage Sishu Ananta tells the Lord that He (the Lord) will take birth in Odisha and incarnate as Lord Kalki. He will then annihilate the sinners and protect His pious devotees, thereby restoring rectitude.

5.

śuṇa he bāranga kahibā se raṅga prabhu abatāra sthāna |

śrī birajā kṣetre janma labhibe ananta miśra gr̥heṇa ||

-Chumbaka Malika, Sishu Ananat Das, Chapter 1, 23rd verse

O my disciple Baranaga listen, Will tell you about the birth place of Prabhu                At Shri Biraja Kshetra, will He be born, in the clan of Ananta Mishra

The prophecy ‘Bhakta Salabeg’ has written stating that The Supreme Lord Kalki would be born in a Brahmin’s house is also corroborated by Sishu Ananta in Chumbak Malika. In the place where the Lord will be born, Mother Biraja Devi will be residing in that area, and it will be a Brahmin house with the surname of Mishra. Just as Sri Ramachandra’s clan is called the Ikshvaku clan or Surya clan, the clan in which Lord Kalki will be born will be that of Ananta Mishra.

  – (6-1) Kalijuga Mālikā – Achyutananda Dās

Translation (6-1) :

With full devotion, Ramchandra is saying to his Guru

Please explain to me the ‘leela’ (events) of Kaliyug

In which village will Mahaprabhu take birth ?

Achuta is saying this through a song, Ramchandra, please do listen

On the southern side of the Milky river is the land named ‘Linga’

Brahma has established this place by performing a yajna

The mountains have disappeared and stands destroyed

Reverberating sounds are heard from that place

The devotees won’t be able to find the place even after traveling many places

Indeed your questions will be spread and become popular Ramadasa

The Lord will be performing his pastimes secretly

Achuta explained all this with great dedication

All this will not be understood easily and so don’t tell this to everybody

Purport (6-1):

Ramachandra, the prime disciple of Mahapurusha Achyutananda, is surrendering in devotion and asking him, “Please explain to me the events of Kaliyuga. Where is the place where Lord Kalki will incarnate in this Kaliyuga?” Achyutananda  is explaining to his disciple Ramachandra by means of a song.

To the south of the Milk river or Kharasrota river exists the ‘Linga Kshetra’ or ‘Biraja Kshetra’ or ‘Jajnagar’. The same place is also called ‘Shaiva Kshetra’. The place was established by Brahma. Brahma first performed the Yagya at that place and established that very holy place. That’s why it is called the ‘Adi Kshetra’. Kapil Muni has written in Kapil Samhita that this area was the first to be established. For the benefit of the devotees, Mata Birjai Devi is present here. The same area is also known as Biraja Kshetra, Linga Kshetra, Shaiva Kshetra, Jajnagar or Sambal.  Lord Kalki will be born at this same place.

According to Vishnu Purana, Agastya Muni had cursed Vindhyachal mountain to reside in hell. The Vindhyachal on which Mother Birja was present, the place of Vindhyachal where Brahma had performed the Yagya, the Vindhyachal on the side of which Mata Baitarani Ganga flows, Mahapurush Achyutananda says that this place from where the mountain range disappeared due to the curse of Agastya Muni, and is the same area referred to as “Sambal’ and is the place where Supreme Lord will take birth.

Devotees will keep on searching but this place will not be found. They will not be able to ascertain the veracity of the place where the Lord will take birth. They will not get this place even after traveling the length and breadth of the entire country. After the lord has taken birth, the questions that Ramdas is asking and being written in Malika will be propagated in India and throughout the world, and will serve as the means by which the devotees will be able to know about the birthplace of Lord Kalki and thus will be able to meet Lord Kalki. Otherwise, no one will be able to know.

kharasrotā nadī brāhmaṇī ku bhedi dugdhabatī nadī jāṇa |

sāhānagrasthita sujana nagra ṭi giri gobardhana ghāṭa || (6-2)

  –  (6-2) Brāhmaṇī Kalpa – Achyutananda Dās

 Purport (6-2):

The stream flowing from the Brahmani river is the ‘Dugdha’ (Milk) river and the same ‘Dugdhabati’ river or Saraswati river is known in Odisha by the name of Kharasrota river. Sahapur (Sahangra) or Sujanpur (Sujanagra) are situated near the same river.

According to the ancient Puranas, the three rivers of Odisha, Baitarani as Gupta Ganga, Kharasrota as Saraswati and Brahmani known as Jamuna.

6-3

śrī baitaraṇī nadī pati tapābanī |

muni gaṇe madhye rahi || (6-3)

  – (6-3) Siśu Ananta Dāsa, Bhabiṣyata Purāṇa, Prathama adhyay

Purport (6-3):

Sri Baitarani river is the holy Ganges river. In that place, there are just 1 less than a crore lingas i.e 99,99,999 in words: Ninety nine lakhs, ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine lingas (‘Unnah koti linga’). In that place my glory will shine by staying in the midst of the sages.

7.

āṁbe naradeha kalankī hoibu utkala deśa re jāīn

– Brahma Sāraswatapaṭala, Acyutānanda Dās

8.

mu jāta viṣṇujasā ghare | martyamaṁḍala oḍiśā re

– Brahmakalpa saṁhitā, Acyutānanda Dās

Purport (7,8):

Leaving no doubt for skeptics, the Panchasakha have variously described the birth of the Lord, His birthplace, and His parents in their numerous Malika treatises.

Sage Achyutananda Das, the most distinguished among the Panchasakha, unequivocally writes again in the aforementioned verses that in His Kalki incarnation, the Supreme Lord will be born in the Indian state of Odisha, in the house of a virtuous Brahmin who sings the glories of Lord Vishnu. There, with sages and saints surrounding Him, He will unfold His eternal glories and divine brilliance.

9.

gayā re sambala nagra viṣṇu śarmā ghara

janmīṇa tapasyā karibe cakradhara ||

– Gurubhakti Gītā, Achyutānanda Dās

In various Malika scriptures composed by them, the five most intimate friends of the Lord, popularly known as the ‘Panchasakha’ have time and again reiterated that the Lord will take birth in the ‘Sambal’ village located in the Jajpur district of Odisha. The revered saint Achyutananda Das once again suggests in his treatise ‘Gurubhakti Gita’ that the Supreme Lord will be born in the family of Vishnu Sharma, a Brahmin hailing from ‘Sambal’ village of ‘Gaya’ (‘Nabhigaya Peetha’ located in the ‘Biraja Kshetra’ of Jajpur).

10.

hoiba anīti jehun sakāla ārata

kalankī prakāśa hebe oḍiśā desata

      – Bhaviṣyajātipāṭaka Gītā, Acyutānanda Dās

Accurately prophesying the grossly sinful human life at the end of the Kali Yuga, eminent seer Achyutanand Das says that men will be unceasingly engaged in countless evil deeds at such a time. Relentless butchering of animals, including cow slaughter, will transcend all brutalities. People’s insensitivities will be at their peak, and the horrific killing of not only women, children, and elderly people but also parents will be evident in society.Such extreme and overwhelmingly predominant moral debasement will pervade society before Lord Kalki descends to earth and takes birth in Odisha to eradicate it.
