“ଚାରି ଉଣା ଲକ୍ଷେ ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠ ନର ଥିବେ ଜାଣ, ଓଡ଼ ରାଷ୍ଟ୍ର ଦେଶେ ରହି ଥିବେ ଟି ପ୍ରମାଣ। ବାଳୁଙ୍ଗା ଉପାଡି ନେଈ ଧାନ ମୁଁ ରଖିବି, ସେ ଧାନ କୁ ବୁନି ପୂଣି ଅମଳ କରିବି। ନିରୋଳ ନିର୍ମଳ ତେଣୁ ହୋଇବ ବିହନ, ବରଷ କୁ ବରଷ ମୁଁ ବାଛିବି ଅର୍ଜୁନ। ସେ ଗୋଟିକ ବୁଣିଲେ ଗୋଟିଏ ହୋଇବ, ଇନ୍ଦ୍ର ଜଳ ନ ବର୍ଷି ଲେ ସେ ନ ମଉଳିବ। ଜଗତରେ ପୂଣ୍ୟ ଧାନ ହେବ ଘରେ ଘରେ, ଧୂଳି ମଳି ନଥିବ ଯେ ତାହାର ଦେହରେ।”

Meaning: Mahaprabhu Shri Krishna tells the devotee Arjuna that in the final days of Kali Yuga He will remove sinful humans from among the living, repeating this winnowing every year like a farmer separating good paddy from chaff. Those who, through repeated hardship, remain surrendered to Him, chant His Name again and again, and shed ego and desire — attaining a pure body — will be chosen: exactly 99,996 such souls, kept by Mahaprabhu in the state of Odisha as the seed of the coming Satya Yuga.

The number in this verse is worth sitting with: not a round figure chosen for effect, but an oddly specific one — the kind a farmer keeps in a ledger, not the kind a storyteller invents for drama. And the mechanism it describes is not a single catastrophic cut but a patient, yearly selection, the same paddy winnowed and re-sown season after season until only the purest grain remains.
