Every prophetic tradition in the world faces the same honest question: how would we know? Vague predictions can be bent to fit anything. The Bhavishya Malika — composed roughly 600 years ago by the Panchasakha, the five saint-poets of Odisha, at the direction of Lord Jagannath — answers that question in an unusual way. It names specific, physical, checkable events, at a specific place: the Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri, one of the most closely observed sacred sites on Earth.
A temple served by thousands of hereditary servitors, watched by millions of pilgrims, and covered daily by the Indian press is the last place a false prophecy should point to. Nothing happens there unrecorded. Which is exactly what makes the last eight years so remarkable.
What the Malika said would happen
In the Hari-Arjuna Chautisa, Mahapurush Achyutananda Das records the Lord's own words describing the signs that will appear at the temple when He departs Nilachala — His seat in Puri — to take human birth at the end of Kali Yuga:
“Nīlācala chādi āmbhe jibu jetebele
lāgiba ratna cānduā agni sete bele
niśā kāle mandiraru corī heba hele
bada deūlu mohara khasiba patthara
basiba je gr̥dhra pakṣī aruṇa stambhara
batāsa re bakra heba nīlacakra mora”

Meaning: "When I leave Nilachala: fire will touch the jewelled canopy; theft will occur in the temple by night; stones will fall from the great temple; a vulture will perch on the Aruna Stambha; and my Neela Chakra will bend in the wind."
Elsewhere the Malika adds a companion sign, tying the vulture on the Aruna Stambha — the 34-foot stone pillar before the temple's Lion Gate, carrying the charioteer of the Sun — to falling stone from the temple structure:
“gr̥dhra pakṣī je basiba aruṇa stambheṇa”

Meaning: A vulture shall sit upon the Aruna Stambha — an event the Malika links in time with stone falling from the temple.
And a third verse names lightning striking the temple itself as the signal of the age's end:
“pejanalā phuṭī tora paḍiba bijulī
se juge jiba kī prabhu Nīlāncala chādi”

Meaning: Lightning will strike within the temple precinct — and in that age the Lord departs Nilachala.
Keep those three images in mind — lightning on the temple, falling stone and falling forms, a bird of prey on the sacred pillar — and now read the record.
What actually happened: the dated record
March 2018. A branch of the Kalpavata — the sacred banyan inside the Jagannath temple complex, revered for centuries — broke and fell.
2018. The flag atop the Jagannath temple was struck by lightning and burned. In the same period, the temple flags of Maa Samaleswari, Maa Tarini and Lord Neel Madhav were also burned — a cluster of identical omens at Odisha's most sacred shrines. Inauspicious birds were sighted atop the temple on 11 August and 26 December of that year.
7 July 2024. During the Rath Yatra — the chariot festival watched by over a million people — the idol of Lord Balabhadra fell onto the servitors while being carried, injuring nine. It was reported by The Hindu and across the national press. Devotees noted that the festival itself had fallen at an astrologically inauspicious time.
14 February 2025. The Akshay Danda — the mast bearing the flag of the Neela Chakra — broke at the Srimandir. The "indestructible staff," broken.
16 February 2025. Two days later, blood stains were found near the Srimandir; rituals were suspended while the sanctity was restored.
14 April 2025. A vulture flew off with the flag atop the Puri temple — the gr̥dhra pakṣī of the verse, not merely perching but carrying the Lord's flag away.
4 September 2025. A Garuda — a great eagle — perched on the Aruna Stambha, and returned three times in that single month. The precise image of the 600-year-old verse, enacted at the precise pillar it names, in front of cameras.

Coincidence has a budget
Any single event on that list can be shrugged off. Birds land on pillars; lightning strikes tall buildings. But the honest measure of a prophecy is specificity times convergence. The Malika did not predict "troubles at temples someday." It named a particular pillar, a particular bird, a particular flag, a particular wheel, particular falling stone — at one address in Puri — as a linked cluster of signs marking one event: the Lord's departure from Nilachala to take human birth as Kalki at the end of Kali Yuga's 5,000 years.
Between 2018 and 2025 that cluster arrived together, in tight sequence, exactly in the window when — as we showed in the previous article — the scriptural count of Kali Yuga's 5,000 years runs out and Saturn stands in Pisces. The Malika further states that when the flag flies repeatedly from the Neela Chakra, the born Kalki Avatar is already a boy of eleven — the signs are not warnings of something distant, but announcements of something already underway.
Pandit Dr. Shri Kashinath Mishra, who has devoted more than four decades to the study of these texts, draws the conclusion the verses themselves insist on: the signs at the Srimandir are not misfortunes. They are confirmations. The age has turned; the Lord has kept His promise; and what the world is now living through is the twilight crossing into Satya Yuga, which the Malika dates from 2032.
Not fear — preparation
It is easy to read omens and feel dread. That is precisely the wrong reading. In the Malika's telling, these signs exist for the devotee's sake — so that when the world grows strange, those who know the verses recognize the hour and respond not with panic but with practice: the name of Madhava on the tongue, the three daily windows of Tri-Sandhya, the Srimad Bhagavat open in the home, clean food, clean conduct, and satsang. The same texts that describe the signs describe the protection.
The temple's message, read through the Malika, is finally a hopeful one: the Lord has not abandoned Puri — He has gone ahead of us, into the world, to lead it across the threshold.
